The Computer Guy was opened by Patrick Palmer of Hampton, Iowa, after working with computers since the age of 14. While still in high school in the early 80's, Palmer worked together with his father, Roger, in a home-based company called Palmer & Palmer Computer Services. After high school graduation in 1983, he went on to further his education at NIACC in Mason City, Iowa. During that time he started a 17 year radio career. In the midst of that career, his passion for computers was still ablaze and he opened The Computer Guy in 1996. Palmer found that by providing quality services at reasonable prices , he could gain the trust and respect of those whose computers he serviced, thus building his business.
After leaving radio in 2000, Palmer went to work for Midwest Wireless, a Minnesota basecell phonene carrier that had an office in Mason City, Iowa, but went on with his work as The Computer Guy. Eventually in June of 2006 he struck out on his own and now dedicates his full time efforts into his company that he loves, serving local customers as well as national computer accounts like Dell, Staples and Sony.
Since 2005, Palmer has been trained and licensed by Dell, Hewlett-Packard, MicronPC and Sony Vaio and has also gone on to earn the CompTIA A+ and CEA CompTIA DHTI+ Certifications. He feels that knowledge is power and knows education never ends, especially in the world of computers and technology.
In April of 2009, Palmer took the decision to take the bold step and move his business to Downtown Hampton into a retail storefront. He bought his parents' computer paper and supply business and on July 1st, 2009, he hired an employee, opened the doors and hasn't looked back.
The Computer Guy serves Northern Iowa, with free pickup and delivery service in a 45-mile radius of Hampton, Iowa. Palmer also provides Remote Assistance computer fixing services for those who live around the corner or around the globe.

Services
Too often computer users get lured into the marketing of big box stores or fly-by-night technicians who only care about their bottom line and provide little or no service! We strive to create real and lasting relationships with our customers so you know you can count on us as your go-to computer shop.
Pat Palmer's knowledge of computers came at around the age of 14 in 1980 while in 8th grade. His father Roger brought home a new TRS-80 Model I computer and said, "I bet you $20 that you can't figure this out!" Like so many things, Pat took it on at full speed and helped his father to write a program to figure batch weights of concrete for the Ready Mix Plant he was managing.
The Computer Guy offers Remote Repair Services for those who cannot bring their computer to our shop or who have special needs in their home or home office environment and have a high speed internet connection. No need to unplug and haul everything in to someone just standing behind a counter - YOU CLICK IT AND WE FIX IT!

My computer had a booting problem that i had narrowed down to a corruption in the booting program or the hard drive died on my own. i handed my computer over to the computer guy (my memory is awful so i forget his name) and he tried his hardest to backup the hard drive and figure out what is going on. sadly my hard drive was dead and my data lost. i told him i would accept the loss if he was able to order a new hard drive and install it. he said he would and he did a wonderful job getting my computer running and safely back to me. his price was reasonable and he was very kind and professional. i would recommend him to anyone needing help with their computer

It was a great experience dealing with Pat the Computer Guy! Every aspect of the experience was exceptional. He came to my house (about 45 miles from Hampton, where he's based) the day after I called. His customer service is outstanding, his prices are reasonable. He made sure everything was running the way it should, even equipment he didn't work on in my network. He went above and beyond, and was very personable and knowledgeable. I'll trust Pat with all my computer needs in the future!

I went in a year and a half ago to have my severely cracked screen fixed and he went above and beyond! Cleaning it all, inside and out! I've referred more people than I can count, and wouldn't change it for the world! Now, I'm heartbroken, because I just cracked my (new phone's) screen tonight, looks like I'll be calling the computer guy again!
